Dear friends of "Photo Moments", I present to you the beautiful Assumption Church in the "Momina Banya" district - the largest church in the area outside of Plovdiv.
In front of the temple, you will see a memorial plaque indicating the place where the building of the old two-story Mominban School was erected in the distant 1870.
The school itself was founded in 1843, and the building existed until 1964.
How to get to here?
The church was built solely with the voluntary donations of the laity under the spiritual supervision of its first priest, Pope Marko, father of the great military commander General Todor Markov, immediately after the liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish slavery in 1883.
Skilled craftsmen from Debrecen erected it, and on November 11, 1884, the church was consecrated by Smyrna Bishop Gervasius.
The church is without a cube, it has one altar apse and a throne.
It was declared a cultural monument in 1975.
The old fountain opposite the temple has a very interesting history.
It was restored in 1998 in honor of three round anniversaries:
115 years since the construction of the Holy Assumption Church
155 years since the foundation of the old two-story Mominban school
310 years since the Chiprov uprising, which broke out in 1688 to liberate the Bulgarian lands from Ottoman rule during the Great Turkish War.
I wish you a fabulous walk and magical emotions!
