Dear friends, it is with trepidation that I present to you the temple "St. Prophet Elijah" in the beautiful Rhodope jewel Dorkovo.

The construction of the church was completed in 1928.

The temple represents a miniature architectural form of "St. Alexander Nevsky" in Sofia.

The church is cross-domed with a bell tower with two bells and an apse to the east.

The central dome is clearly expressed by four semicircular arches.
The eastern side of the nave ends with an altar with a throne, and the western side with an emporium.
The interior decoration is impressive.

The iconostasis has simple wood carving.
The center of the uppermost belt is occupied by the "Last Supper", flanked by icons, below it follows a row of icons, arranged on both sides of the altar door.

The monumental pictorial decoration follows the Eastern Orthodox canon: the dome represents the general idea of the Beginning and the End of the World. On the north wall of the nave are depicted the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius. On the west wall on the right is depicted St. Sophia with her three daughters – Faith, Hope and Love, and on the left – St. Barbara, St. Paraskeva and St. Nedelya.
What can be visited nearby?
Near Dorkovo there is a unique deposit, representing a cluster of bones from over 30 species of animals in one place – Pliocene Park.
Nearby you can explore the ancient ruins of the "Tsepina" fortress.

8.5 kilometers from Dorkovo (about 14 minutes by car) you can visit the charming town of Rakitovo, where you can explore the old clock tower.

20 kilometers from Dorkovo (30 minutes by car) is the Tsigov Chark resort complex and the picturesque Batak Dam.

Очарователна разходка ви пожелавам!
