Dear friends of "Photo Moments", today we will take a green and charming walk to the beautiful, very noisy and so wild Suchurum waterfall.
Suchurum is one of several impressive waterfalls on Stara Reka - a twenty-kilometer river, a left tributary of Stryama.
Stara Reka originates under the name of the Great River from an altitude of 1942 meters. It flows from the northern foot of the Ravnets ridge in the Kaloferska planina - part of the Stara planina. At first it flows to the north, then to the west and southwest, and then to the south in a deep valley with a great slope.
Before the town of Karlovo, Stara Reka forms a beautiful waterfall, known by the names Karlovo falls and Suchurum falls.
How do you get to the waterfall?
On the following map I have marked the exact location of Suchurum waterfall.
Of course, there are different ways to get to your desired destination, but my favorite is to walk the distance along the central pedestrian street of the city of Karlovo.
I suggest that our joint walking tour starts from the beautiful old building of the former Bulgarian National Bank, which is located near the "20th of July" square in the center of the city of Karlovo.
A pedestrian walk with a view all the time to the majestic southern slopes of the proud Balkan is an incomparable pleasure that I adore every time I visit the city of Levski.
I walk past the bronze 3D model "Karlovo in the palm of your hand" depicting significant historical and cultural sites located in the city of Karlovo.
You will soon find yourself in the green and peaceful park "Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi", through which the Old River flows.
I will share with you two small but close to the waterfall parking lot where you can leave your cars in case you are in a hurry and don't have time for a long walk.
Here I have indicated the factory of the brothers Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi, located in the northern outskirts of the city. The factory is located right across from the park that bears their name.
There is a small parking lot in front of the factory, where you can leave your car.
A good landmark is the monument of Hristo Prodanov from Karlovy Vary, the first Bulgarian to step on the 8,000 mark, which is located in Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Park opposite the factory.
Here is the exact location of another small parking lot nearby.
The parking lot is located at the intersection of "Todor Kableshkov" street and "Vodopad" pedestrian street.
Whichever of the suggested routes you choose, you won't go wrong and you'll soon be walking along the footpath in the direction of the waterfall.
As I already mentioned, you can enjoy several great waterfalls on Stara Reka.
The silence of the whole area is broken only by the monotonous roar of the river, and the road winds along it, and you will even have to cross it twice.
The walk to the end point is really very, very pleasant, especially in the spring months when everything is green and the river is wild and noisy.
There is a dedicated rest area, in which a fountain has been erected, from which clear cold water flows.
You will soon arrive at the Levski HPP.
The path to the waterfall winds between the hydroelectric power station and Stara reka.
At the end of the path - between the building and the river, there are narrow and slightly steep steps, which I advise you to be careful about.
You take the steps and there it is!
Suchurum waterfall is about 15 meters high and after the rains it is extremely lush, noisy and charmingly beautiful, which you will see for yourself after looking at the pictures I took for you.
Did you know about the secret path leading to the waterfall itself?
I will tell you about her! Continue along the bridge to the very end and to the large pipes.
On the left there is a small gap to a path leading under the bridge by the river and opposite the waterfall.
Take it easy and carefully because after the rains it can be muddy and you should be careful not to slip.
I wish you an exceptional and impressive walk!
